How to use Help Me Find My Sound
Instead of guessing which sound might suit you, Help Me Find My Sound plays you pairs of sounds and learns from your choices. After about ten quick comparisons it builds a personal sound — and a Sound Profile the app can reuse for suggestions. There are no wrong answers: it is only about what feels easiest to your ears.

Before you start
- Use headphones if you can — comparisons are easier (not required).
- Set the volume low and comfortable. You are comparing character, not loudness.
Starting
Open it any of these ways — they all lead to the same place: tap Find My Sound in the top menu, or Experiments → Find My Sound, or the "Help Me Find My Sound" link under the big circle on the Sounds page. Then choose how many rounds you want — 8 (quick), 12 (standard) or 15 (thorough) — and press Start Experiment.
During each round
- You will see two shapes, A and B. One of them is playing.
- Tap A, then tap B — the sound switches instantly. Switch back and forth as often as you like; take your time.
- Answer "Which feels more comfortable?" by tapping A, No difference or B. Comfortable means easy to listen to — the sound you could leave on for an hour and forget about, the one that sits calmly beside your tinnitus. It is not about which sound is more interesting; interesting sounds pull attention, and that is usually the opposite of what helps. "No difference" is a perfectly good answer — do not force a choice you do not feel.
The sound you preferred is kept and gently varied for the next round — sometimes in depth or brightness, sometimes with a soft nature texture such as rain, ocean, crickets, lapping water or rustling leaves. The dots at the top show your progress.
When you finish
Your discovered sound is revealed as a living shape, with everything you might want to do next:
- Listen — play it.
- Save — name it and keep it. It then appears under My sounds on the Sounds page, one tap away.
- Tune — open it in the Sound Sculptor and fine-adjust it with sliders.
- Favourites — save it with a matching visual as an environment in Visual Focus.
- Sleep — start it softly with a 60-minute timer and gentle fade-out.
- With a visual — play it inside a full-screen calm visual.
- Try again — run a fresh discovery.
Your Sound Profile
Your answers also build a Sound Profile (shown in the Experiments section): a short summary of what you tend to prefer. The app uses it for suggestions — a one-tap sleep session, a recommended visual — and it gets a little smarter every time you run a discovery.
Tips
- Preferences shift with time of day and mood — rerunning it at night may find a different, softer sound than in the morning.
- If everything starts sounding the same after many rounds, you have probably converged on your sound: stop, save it, and enjoy it.
- Sound preferences vary from person to person; this tool helps you explore yours. It does not diagnose or treat anything.
